MS in Information Technology

MSIT aims to produce skilled Professionals who have knowledge of the core principles underlying information technology and an understanding of emerging industry trends.

 

What is MSIT?

The MSIT programme was started in 2001 and students were admitted to the Learning Centres at International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad, School of IT, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad, College of Engineering, Osmania University and Regional Engineering College (REC, now NIT), Warangal in the last four years.

 

The 2-year MSIT and 3-year MSIT (MS in IT or Master of Science in Information Technology) programmes are innovative multi-university interdisciplinary post graduate programmes being offered under the MSIT programme. These programmes use sophisticated educational technologies and are delivered through Learning Centers with well-equipped laboratories housed in the finest IT and engineering institutions.

 

 

MSIT offers the latest domains specializations on par with international universities. Computer Networks and security as a domain specialization is offered for the first time in the state only in MSIT. Bio-Informatics, Software Engineering and E-commerce are also the domains which have very high demand in the current software industry.

What is the selection procedure ?

Stage I

The Stage I consists of Graduate Aptitude Test (GAT) which is a Computer Based Test.

  • 2-yr MSIT -- B.Techs (All Branches) or equivalent / Post Graduates in Computer Science, Mathematics or Statistics must take the Graduate Aptitude Test - A (GAT-A)
  • 3-Year MSIT -- Graduates (BCA, B. Sc, B. Com etc...) / Post Graduates other than Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics must take GAT-B.

Both GAT 'A' and GAT 'B' are Computer based tests. Please check the Entrance Test Syllabus for details

 

There are two Modes for taking the GAT entrance tests. Students can either avail one or both the modes of testing. However the best of the scores in all the attempts would be taken into consideration for final ranking.

 

Entrance Test: The entrance test can be taken multiple times. But a time gap of 30 days should be there between any two successive attempts. For every attempt a non-refundable crossed Demand Draft of Rs.500, drawn in favour of "CIHL", payable at Hyderabad has to be paid at the testing center.

 

The regular entrance test: Candidates can apply for this test either by sending afilled up application form in the Prospectus or by applying online( Please see' How to Apply'). Requests for application form and prospectus should be accompanied by the name and correspondence address of the applicant, clearly written on a white paper accompanied by a non-refundable crossed Demand Draft of Rs.500, drawn in favour of "CIHL", payable at Hyderabad, to the address given below.

Stage II

Only those candidates qualifying in Stage I will be called for Stage II of the entrance tests consisting of Listening Comprehension (which is qualifying in nature), and those qualifying in the Listening Comprehension will be called for counseling the same day. There is however no compulsion on the part of CIHL or the Learning Centers to fill up all the seats mentioned against a Learning Centre.

 

Stage III

Candidates qualifying in Stage I & II will join the Preparatory Course of eight weeks duration. Only the Students clearing the Preparatory course will be allowed to join the Main MSIT programme. The students not clearing the Preparatory course will have to leave the programme. The Preparatory course will consist of IT Workshop.

In the Preparatory course, students are required to assemble their own PCs, install hardware and software, troubleshoot their own PCs when required, Programming primer and learn the basics of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, HTML).

 

DIRECT APPLICATIONS

Candidates with GRE scores over 1100 in Verbal & Quantitative sections and over 4.0 in Analytical writing and TOEFL scores above 213 can apply directly for counseling in Stage II.

Regular Entrance test:

Online applications would not enroll you for walk-in entrance.

 

You have to send the DD and two photographs by post to the address mentioned above. Its mandatory to mention your Name, Reference number, Phone Number and Address on the overleaf of the DD.

 

Request For Prospectus & Application:

Send a non-refundable crossed Demand Draft (DD) of Rs. 500 from a scheduled bank drawn in favor of 'CIHL', payable at Hyderabad to the above address to obtain a prospectus and the application form.

 

After you receive the application form, fill the application form and send it back to the same address along with two photographs.

 

Send Application and request for Prospectus:

Send a non-refundable crossed Demand Draft (DD) of Rs. 500 from a scheduled bank drawn in favor of 'CIHL', payable at Hyderabad to the above address along with an application on a white paper which gives all the required and necessary fields asked for in the application form available online and along with two photographs.

 

Applications without the DD's and Photographs would not be processed.

 

What is the entrance test syllabus ?

The GAT tests will have 43 questions on quantitative (mathematical) ability involving arithmetic, elementary algebra, geometry, inequalities, graphs (data interpretation), sets, relations and functions etc., and 29 questions on analytical/logical reasoning and 28 questions in verbal (proficiency in English) involving sentence completion, analogy, reading comprehension, antonyms, etc.

 

These GAT tests are Computer based. The test will be for two and a half hours duration and will contain 100 questions.

 

Listening Comprehension test

The Listening Comprehension test is for forty-five minutes involving short passages and conversations followed by questions to be answered.

 

What is the Fee Structure ?

Fee for MSIT

  • Rs.10,000 for the Preparatory Course of Eight weeks and Rs.90,000/- for the remaining weeks of the 1st year of the 2-year and the 3-year MSIT programmes
  • Rs.1,00,000 per year for the 2nd year of the 2-year MSIT programme
  • Rs.1,00,000 per year for the 2nd and 3rd year of the 3-year MSIT programme

Fee must be paid at the beginning of each year of the MSIT programmes.

 

Opportunities exist for assistantships in the programme for deserving students after the first year. Loans are available from banks, provided their eligibility criteria are met.
